John Wayne Airport in Orange County, also known as SNA, is undergoing an expansion. The original Thomas F. Riley terminal was opened in 1990 and was designed to handle 8.4 million passengers a year. In 2007 the terminal handled nearly 10 million passengers. orange County has approved and begun an Airport Improvement program and construction is under way. A new terminal, which will be called Terminal C will be opened in 2011.
On a recent trip through Orange County Airport, there was little evidence of construction or any inconvenience to the traveler. You will notice that removal of Parking Structure B1 has begun as well as the moving of the South RON (remain-over-night) commercial airline area is in progress to make way for the new Terminal C.
The new Terminal C will offer additional passenger screening, 6 new gates, and upgraded services and amenities for the business traveler. Also a new parking structure at the Airport will accommodate more than 2, 000 cars.
