he American Automobile Association (AAA) expects Thanksgiving travel to drop slightly this year, but there will still be millions of travelers on the roads and crowding into airports.
The AAA said it expects 41 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more this Thanksgiving, down by about 600,000, or 1.4 percent, from last year. Of that number, 33 million are expected to drive, and 4.5 million will fly, according to a news release.
“Although travel may be slightly down when compared to 2007, AAA is forecasting the third-highest number of travelers since 2000,” said Elaine Zeinner, spokeswoman for AAA’s Cincinnati office, in the release.
Sharply lower fuel prices will help. According to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $1.67 in Cincinnati and $1.76 in Covington. That compares to $2.99 and $3.09, respectively, a year ago on this date.
